This article preserves the eight questions raised by Apple’s 2022 announcement and updates the answers that have changed since then.
1. What did Apple announce about BIMI in 2022?
The AuthIndicators Working Group announced that Apple would support BIMI in iOS 16 and macOS Ventura. The change made eligible brand logos available for Apple Mail to display after checking the sender’s BIMI and authentication evidence. 2. Why did Apple Mail support matter for BIMI?
Apple added a major native mail client to the providers that could render BIMI logos. That widened the set of places where an eligible sender’s logo could appear, but it doesn’t make the logo a guarantee that every message or sender is trustworthy.

Apple requires eligible senders to present qualifying BIMI evidence. A VMC is one route, but Apple’s support is not accurately described as VMC-only. Compare current VMC and CMC requirements before choosing a certificate path.
5. Is Apple Mail BIMI support limited to iCloud addresses?
No. Apple Mail’s current BIMI support is not limited to icloud.com, me.com, or mac.com addresses. Logo display still depends on the mailbox provider, the sender’s eligibility, and Apple Mail’s rendering behavior.
6. How many people use iCloud Mail compared with Apple Mail?
Apple does not publish a clean comparison between iCloud Mail users and Apple Mail users across mailbox providers. General iCloud account figures also include services beyond email, so they should not be used as mailbox counts.
